1. Agreement

By downloading, installing, or using Local Pocket ("the Software"), you agree to these terms. If you don't, don't use the Software.

2. License

Local Pocket is open-source software released under the MIT License. You are granted a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and sell copies of the Software, subject to the conditions of the MIT license text shipped in LICENSE.

Future paid services — including optional cloud sync, hosted model registry, team accounts, and similar features — may be released under separate commercial terms. The local application core that you download today remains MIT-licensed, always.

3. Acceptable Use Policy

You agree not to use the Software to create, store, or transmit content that:

  • is unlawful, fraudulent, or infringes another party's intellectual property or privacy rights;
  • is sexually explicit material involving minors (CSAM), or material that depicts or facilitates child exploitation;
  • constitutes harassment, threats, doxxing, or incitement of violence against individuals or groups;
  • is intended to generate or distribute malware, phishing pages, or unsolicited bulk communication ("spam");
  • is intended to deceive, defraud, or impersonate another person or organization without consent.

Because Local Pocket runs locally on your device, we cannot mechanically enforce this policy — but violations forfeit any future support, hosted services, or community standing.

4. EU AI Act — Article 50 transparency & prohibited uses

Local Pocket is an AI system within the meaning of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 ("EU AI Act"). You are informed and acknowledge that outputs are generated by a machine-learning model and may be inaccurate, biased, or fabricated.

Prohibited deployment. You agree not to deploy Local Pocket as a component of, or to make decisions in, any of the following Annex III high-risk contexts without an independent conformity assessment performed by a qualified party:

  • Employment, recruitment, candidate evaluation, or termination decisions;
  • Educational or vocational training assessment, grading, or admissions;
  • Biometric identification or categorisation;
  • Law enforcement, border control, migration, or asylum decisions;
  • Critical infrastructure operation (energy, water, transport, digital infrastructure);
  • Access to or enjoyment of essential public or private services including credit scoring, social welfare benefits, and emergency response triage;
  • Administration of justice or democratic processes (including political advertising at scale).

This restriction is in addition to, not in place of, any other restrictions in this agreement.

5. No medical, legal, or financial advice

Local Pocket may discuss medical, legal, tax, or financial topics — it does not, and cannot, provide professional advice. Always consult a qualified professional. We disclaim all liability for decisions made in reliance on the Software's output.

6. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.

7. Trademark

"Local Pocket" is an unregistered trademark of Atul Kapoor. Use of the mark to identify and refer to the Software is permitted under fair-use principles. Use in a way that suggests endorsement of, or affiliation with, a third party's product or service is not permitted without prior written consent.

8. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Exclusive jurisdiction lies with the courts of Bangalore, Karnataka, India.

10. Changes

We may amend these terms; revisions are committed to the public repository and reflected at the next site build. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
